Be What You Are

You must have heard the famous quote by Brian Molko: "Imitation is the highest form of flattery, but clones kind of get it wrong because we are promoting individuality and being proud of being yourself." We often get influenced by other personalities and at times the influence overshadows our own individuality. It is nice to appreciate good qualities in others and try to inculcate those in our personality. But without losing our own individuality!

In the star-studded night sky,
You are an individual star.
Don't try to be like "others"
Be the original that you are!

Why do you let your uniqueness make you shy?
Remember, every star is important to the sky.

In the bouquet of flowers
You are that beautiful red rose
Which soothes everyone's eyes;
From which the fragrance flows.

Why do few thorns deter you away?
Remember, a flower is special in many ways.

In the mighty blue ocean,
You are that little droplet
Which travels to the sky,
To come down as rain, where its need is most felt.

Why don't you let your individuality unfurl?
Remember, a drop in the shell becomes a Pearl.

In a musical composition
You are that single note,
Without which the tune is incomplete—
Without which the rhythm doesn't float…

Why do you think you are unwanted?
Why do you always fume?
Remember, each note is important for a lovely tune.

Learn to have faith in yourself,
And that alone will take you far.
You are special to many
Celebrate being what you are!

I thank Achieve! for publishing my work. I like the quote they have out above my poem:

Hey, Must say thats an amazing word.. Truly said that in order to resort to escapism one has to imitate. This reminds me of a Douglas Sirk Movie named Imitations of Life. The great Lana Turner plays the protagonist. Would suggest you to watch this movie if possible. It is considered to be one of the best movies ever directed in States. They still take this movie as a case study in Major Universities in States. Again a very beautiful poem.. Worth Appreciation.. But then we fail to remember that people imitate to get out of the social setting that they are a part of. Take the case of Dalits, they convert to other religions to get out of their social status and achieve a new identity. I think the highest form of Imitation that one tries to achieve is that of Race and the Religion. Well thats all ... I think there s more to say on this. But beautiful words and nic e to way to put a not so often noticed thought.
